As the calendar changes to May, the 2025 CDGA Fantasy Golf presented by Tour Edge season begins to kick into full gear. The season slate of seven events started with The Players Championship in March and the Masters in April, with the new Top the Teams format offering even more ways for CDGA members to win a variety of prizes. The focus of the race for the CDGA Cup now shifts to the PGA Championship, which heads to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Xander Schauffele will look to defend his 2024 victory at the George Cobb design, vying for his third major title.
The 2025 CDGA Fantasy Golf campaign began in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, with The Players Championship in mid-March. Rory McIlroy emerged victorious from a Monday-morning three-hole aggregate playoff with J.J. Spaun to capture his second Players title. Just like the end of the tournament on Sunday, the CDGA Fantasy Golf event also featured a tie atop the leaderboard at -67. John Karzen took home top honors via a match of scorecards, as his team included McIlroy, Spaun and Akshay Bhatia, each of whom finished at double-digits under par.
A month later, as McIlroy finally captured the career grand slam and donned the Green Jacket, Peter Skiba finished the Masters Fantasy Golf event at -59, four shots clear of the field to secure the title. Skiba’s team included McIlroy and playoff competitor Justin Rose, as well as top-five finishers Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau. With the victory in his only Fantasy Golf event of the year, Skiba joined Karzen atop the season-long CDGA Cup standings with 26 points.
The spotlight now turns to Quail Hollow, where McIlroy holds the course record of 61 set in 2015 during the Wells Fargo Championship. The Northern Irishman finished T-22 in the 2017 PGA Championship contested at the club, with Justin Thomas having claimed his first major victory. At the end of May, the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally will head to Erin Hills in Wisconsin and will serve as the fourth CDGA Fantasy Golf event of the seven-event calendar and first of two women’s events (AIG British Women’s Open). Yuka Saso will look to defend her title following her triumph at Lancaster Country Club last summer.
